Moon Chae Won's Comeback in the Small Screen Through KBS Good Doctor, Soon!

An Innocent Man and The Princess' Man fan, that's me. Moon Chae Won's acting won me over from these two great drama series that I have yet to be over with. Well, she did have amazing chemistry with both actors on her previous dramas and anticipating another awesome one for her upcoming drama Good Doctor.

Joo Won from Kim Tak Gu made an impact, though I haven't had the chance to see 7th Grade Civil Servant yet. But I read that the ratings are good and his popularity soared high even more. I'm first skeptical about the team up between these two. I hope to see MCW with a much older guy because JW has this baby face aura. But then again, I'll give it a chance, because I know that this one is going to be a good drama.

Joo Won And Moon Chae Won’s First Script Reading For “Good Doctor”

cre: soompi

Fans eager to see the return of Joo Won and Moon Chae Won to the small screen won’t have to wait much longer. The actors for KBS’s new Monday and Tuesday drama “Good Doctor” had their first script reading on June 9th.
According to the reports, the actors and staff gathered at KBS’s Yeoido Drama Practice Annex to undergo their first group script reading session. Present that was a star studded lineup of actors and actress including names such as Joo Won, Moon Chae Won, Joo Sang Wook, Kim Min Suh, Chun Ho Jin, Kwak Do Won, Na Yong Hee, Jung Man Suk, Uhm Hyun Kyun and Yoon Bong Gil.
The practice session ran for over 3 hours yet the crew didn’t show any signs of tiredness, clearly demonstrating the passion these actors and actresses have for the project. The actors also appeared to be extremely well prepared with Joo Won, Moon Chae Won and Joo Sang Wook dealing effortlessly with the large quantity of medical terms contained within their scripts. Everyone present also treated this practice run like an actual recording and there was no shortage of passionate acting being delivered during the session.  The atmosphere was also very friendly with the crew clearly seen enjoying themselves and having a good laugh throughout the session.
“Good Doctor’s” main producer Ki Min Soo PD, previously responsible for the hit weekend drama “Ojakgyo Brothers,” showed his resolve by telling the crew that “I hope we make a drama that warms the hearts of everyone and is of a completely different nature to prior medical dramas.” This statement was met with a round of applause from the rest of the crew.
The drama “Good Doctor” will be based around the pediatric department of a university hospital, telling the story ofPark Shi On (Joo Won), who overcomes his Savant syndrome in the hopes of becoming a pediatrician. The story will also feature the highly talented associate Professor Kim Do Han (Joo Sang Wook), who is hiding some wounds of his own and the easy going doctor Cha Yoon Suh (Moon Chae Won) that warms the hearts of both men. The drama will first air on August 5th after the end of “Shark.”

Kwon Sang Woo in MBC New Drama "Medical Top Team"

For Kwon Sang Woo fans, including me, this is his next project on MBC to be aired later this year, October 2013. He is busy this year,  with Queen of Ambition wrapped up early this year. Two dramas for KSW is more than enough for us. We get to see him act again and what's more, he is a doctor/surgeon in his next project.

cre: allkpop

Actor Kwon Sang Woo is set to return to viewers with a new drama!

After playing double roles as twin brothers in his previous work 'Queen of Ambition', starring alongside Soo Ae and TVXQ's Yunho, the actor will return as a surgeon this time through 'Medical Top Team'.

He'll be playing the role of 'Park Tae Shin', who is a genius in the field of surgery, but is often misunderstood due to his rash comments and attitude. However, underneath the exterior lies a soft-hearted man.

The filming will begin in August, and the drama will premiere in October on MBC!

[mslee1107 Review] Empire of Gold Episode 2 - Divided For Power

From the ending of episode 1, Jang Tae Joo [TJ] held the money bag and begged the hospital to save his father while the cops were holding his arms and dragging him away, witnessed by his sister Hee Joo.

Next scene found him inside the cell. Hee Joo visited him and told him that their father passed away and his remains were scattered in a place he likes to be.

Tae Joo felt helpless. He imagined his father visited him and told him to make it in this world and win even once. An advise that he will definitely heed. TJ had experience a difficult situation in a hard way. He realized that what his father told him before was true. Sometimes, doing the right thing won't get you nowhere. It had to be courage and determination to get what you want to win the battles in life.

Luckily, Choi Dong Sung of Sung Jin Construction survived the operation. I'm still not sure why this family seems to hold secrets, thus tension can be felt. CDS is clearly very fond of his youngest, Choi Sung Jae [Lee Hyun Jin] though it was later revealed in the story that his father is already dead. He is also a little bit colder towards his mother, CDS wife.

Inside the prison TJ met Choi Yong Jae, Min Jae's brother. He had asthma. While conflicts between two families are going on, MinJae wants to reconcile with his uncle. Maybe to further his ambition. But his father, Dong Jin doesn't want to. Min Jae visited Yong Jae and told him that their money was being paid for his release. I guess, a father would do anything for a son. But MJ told it in a sarcastic advise, to live his life without getting them in trouble again. Yong Jae, in his end, realized his mistakes and what a burden he was to the family, decided to just end his life. I think what happened was what he decided. He let go of his medicines, his inhaler, so that when asthma attacked him, he died. Tae Joo witnessed it and with his quick thinking, grabbed that moment for his chance to make money.

Meanwhile, Min Jae met with Tae Joo and saw through him. They both knew that Yong Jae could not have left last words for his family. But MJ was willing to give TJ anything he wants in exchange for lying to his father about reconciling with his uncle. Instead, TJ told otherwise. He said that YJ wants justice.  MJ was so angry towards TJ. This part was my favorite scene between them. TJ clearly is not backing down.

Another heartwarming in this episode is that even though Dong Sung and Dong Jin are having misunderstanding as brothers and their families are getting dragged in the situation because of the company and shares, there is truth that somethings can not be forgotten especially growing up together as family, as cousins. Yong Jae seems a favorite cousin to Seo Yoon and despite the disputes, they remained close. I can feel SY's sadness at what happened to YJ. But then, this only made her choose what will be right for the company. To kick father and son out of the company. Perhaps, because greed is eating DJ and MJ and envy is the poison that make them do bad things for the company.

Purchasing lots and lands for the following days before the company meeting in order to gain more shares inside the company is what MJ's goal to defeat SY's family.

And because Tae Joo knew who ordered the abolition of the tenants that caused his father to pass away, he fortunately got the list of all the tenants MJ was supposed to buy lands. Together with Seol Hee, they owned the lands.

He bargained but told MJ through phone that he won't sell. Instead TJ called Seo Yoon about it.

image

image

I love the ending. At last, they will meet for the first time. Although each had already caught a glimpse of each other when TJ came to the office.

A meeting I hope that will make SY and TJ a team to stop MJ from his plans.

For now, these are my own recaps and review for this episode. I like the story. It's about family conflict. About greed, power and I think destiny. Because man chooses his path or destiny either to win or lose.

And Tae Joo's destiny is just starting...

Kdrama Actors With International Backgrounds

Ok Taecyeon

Han Groo

Park Yoo Chun

If you've ever wondered why some kdrama actors seem to be so fluent in other languages, it's probably because they lived in and attended school in other countries.
For example 2PM's Ok Taecyeon, who appeared in "Cinderella's Sister," "Dream High" and will star in the upcoming drama "Who Are You?" spent several years attending school in the U.S. He was born in Korea but immigrated with his parent to Bedford, Massachusetts, living there for seven years. He attended Bedford High School, before attending, Gel In High School in Seoul and Dankook University. Besides English, he can also speak Japanese, which comes in handy at his fan meetings there.
Actress Han Groo, who plays Ha Soo Young in the new drama "Scandal," moved to the U.S. with her family when she was in fourth grade. She attended elementary school in Arizona and junior high in California, earning excellent grades. Then her family moved to China, where Han Groo went to the Beijing International Art School. As a result, she is fluent in both English and Mandarin. Her career includes appearances in the dramas "Can We Get Married?" "Just Like Today" and "Girl K."
JYJ's Park Yoo Chun, who starred in "Missing You," "Sungkyunkwan Scandal," "Rooftop Prince" and "Miss Ripley" also immigrated to the U.S. with his parents. He was in the sixth grade when they moved to Fairfax, Virginia. He attended Holmes Middle School and Chantilly High School before he was scouted by a talent agency and returned to Korea to become a singer.
Kim Jae Wook, the star of "Mary Stayed Out All Night," and the upcoming drama "Who Are You?" was born in Korea but his family moved to Japan shortly after he was born. He lived there until he was seven years old and can speak fluent Japanese. He also appeared in "Bad Guy" and "Coffee Prince," in which he spoke Japanese.
Some kdrama actors grew up in another country because one of their parents is not Korean. Daniel Henny, who starred in "My Lovely Kim Sam Soon," was born in Michigan to a Korean adoptee mother and an Irish-American father. He became a star due to that series, despite speaking no Korean, and in 2009 also appeared in "The Fugitive: Plan B" with Bi Rain and Lee Na Young.
Julien Kang is a Korean-Canadian actor, who was born in France to a French mother and Korean father. Fluent in French, and English, he has appeared in several kdramas, including "High Kick: The Revenge of the Short Legged," "Goodbye Dear Wife" and "To The Beautiful You."
For some actors who spend time in both countries, Hollywood winds up being more appealing than Hallyu fame. Yunjin Kim was born in Korea and immigrated to the U.S. when she was 10. After graduating from the London Academy of Performing Arts, she appeared in American films and on television, most notably as a main character in the series "Lost." She also appeared in the kdrama "Wedding Dress" and the Korean blockbuster film "Shiri," but has focused her career on America, and is currently starring in a new American series, "Mistresses."

Song Hye Kyo's Stand Against False Rumors

Song Hye Kyo

For most of her acting career Song Hye Kyo has laughed at the rumors that circulated about her, but a few years ago some of those rumors took an ugly turn. Things got so out of hand that the star of "That Winter The Wind Blows," Worlds Within" and "Full House" was forced earlier this year to file lawsuits against 41 netizens for spreading rumors between Sept. 2008 and Dec. 2011
Of those 41 netizens, the Seoul Central District Court has indicted 24 with fines.
UAA Entertainment, Song Hye Kyo's agency, said they learned they won the case by reading the news. But they were not surprised at their victory since it was obviously the kind of slander that celebrities should be protected against.
Legally, there is a difference between posting gossipy rumors about your favorite star and defaming their character. A netizen can say something negative about a celebrity but he or she cannot make false accusations that can potentially damage their reputation or career. Also, saying something negative to your friends is one thing, but making a public statement by posting that statement on the Internet can be considered defamation.
For the most part celebrities ignore rumors or make a joke out of them. Song Hye Kyo has in the past been good-natured about rumors that match her up with co-stars. When she heard that rumors linked her romantically with "That Winter The Wind Blows" co-star Jo In Sung, she just laughed and said, "When I first heard the rumor of me asking him out to eat, I didn't think it was unfair to me."
But the unfounded rumors in this case were so ugly that the actress felt she had to take a stand. The rumors said the actress was receiving money from a politician in exchange for certain favors, which is plainly false, but such rumors could nevertheless harm her career. Even though she has been a top actress for a decade, the association with a scandal can keep her from getting the best roles.
The court declared that she was right to file a report and in most of the cases, decided in her favor. Three of the people who were found guilty of slandering the actress were fined about $1,000, while the remaining netizens were fined less.
Who were these netizens? Most were young office workers and one was a doctor. Obviously, they were people with a lot of time on their hands and a grudge against the actress.
Song Hye Kyo's agency was not sure if she had heard the news yet and said that they now had to enter into further discussions with their legal representatives.

Lee Byung Hun And Catherine Zeta-Jones Become A Couple For Elle

Lee Byung Hun

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Lee Byung Hun is on his way to Hollywood again. It's a trip he has made often in the last few years as his career in Hollywood accelerates. Only this time the Hallyu star is heading there for a photo shoot with his glamorous "Red 2" co-star, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. The co-stars will pose together for a cover photo for the August issue of Elle Korea.
According to a representative from the magazine, the spread will feature them as a couple, which should be interesting. Even placing their pictures together shows what an attractive couple they could be if Catherine Zeta-Jones were not already married to actor Michael Douglas and Lee Byung Hun was not about to marry actress Lee Min Jung in August. Magazine representatives say the photo will illustrate both actors' charms and rumors say it is going to be "Red"-hot.
The couple photograph is being used exclusively on the cover of the Korean edition of Elle and it will also be featured in other editions of the magazine.
The fashion shot is timely as the film, Lee Hyung Bun and Catherine Zeta-Jones co-starred in will premiere on July 19 in Los Angeles.
"Red 2" is the comedy-action sequel to "Red," a 2010 film, which was inspired by a comic series of the same name created by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner.
"Red" told the story of former CIA agents who were retired but found themselves bored with their civilized lives. When called to action by a former comrade, they dusted off their guns and performed one more thrilling mission.
In "Red 2," Frank, the character played by Bruce Willis finds out Interpol is hunting him for something he did not do. While trying to clear his name, he finds out that someone is trying to sneak a nuclear weapon into Russia. He also finds out that an assassin is hunting him. So, naturally he must call some members of his "Red" team into action.
The film has a star-studded cast. Besides Lee Byung Hun, it stars Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Mary Louise Parker, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Anthony Hopkins, and Helen Mirren.
Lee Byung Hun plays the contract killer Han. Before this film, he debuted in Hollywood with the film "G.I. Joe: Retaliation."
A third "Red" film is already being developed. The August edition of Elle will be released on July 20.

Son Ye Jin and Kim Nam Gil Take Their Chemistry To The Big Screen

Kim Nam Gil and Son Ye Jin

When the KBS drama "Shark ends its run, it will not be the end of the onscreen chemistry between actors Son Ye Jin and Kim Nam Gil, The co-stars of the dark revenge story will take their chemistry as a couple to the big screen in the film "Pirates."
The film, already being called the Korean version of "Pirates of the Caribbean," will begin shooting at the end of July and film into August.
But it's not quite the same story. Kim Nam Gil will not play the Johnny Depp role of Jack Sparrow. Rumors have it that the roles will be reversed with Son Ye Jin being a pirate and Kim Nam Gil playing a thief who does his stealing on dry land.
The film is about a group of Joseon-era pirates who hunt for a ghost whale that is filled with treasure because it swallowed a ship. Kim Nam Gil's character teams up with Son Ye Jin's character to hunt the whale and in the process they must fight off other pirates. Their characters will have to learn how to work together.
Before "Shark" began filming, Son Ye Jin was asked how she felt about working with Kim Nam Gil. She confessed that she was pleasantly surprised when she met him.
"It might be because of his previous dramas but my image of Kim Nam Gil before I met him was that of a bad guy," said Son Ye Jin. "But his real personality is cute and he is adorable."
Kim Nam Gil said that his being adorable had to do with her.
"Son Ye Jin brings it out in all of us," he said at the pre-drama press conference. "A competition has started between the male actors."
Son Ye Jin has indeed had some adorable roles in the seven dramas and dozen films she appeared in. Maybe the most adorable was Park Gae In the clumsy carpenter in "Personal Taste." But the actress is also talented at melodrama. She played the tragic Alzheimer's patient in the film "A Moment To Remember" and is the haunted prosecutor Jo Hae Woo in "Shark."
Kim Nam Gil has been in 16 dramas, including the one that underlined his bad boy image, "Bad Guy." He has also been in a dozen films. He plays Han Yi Soo, a man consumed by revenge, in "Shark."
He and Son Ye Jin actually worked on the same drama once. He had a cameo in "Personal Taste" as a man sitting in a bar, but it is not known if they even saw each other on set.
Chun Sung Il, who wrote "Chuno" and "Level 7 Civil Servant," created the script for "Pirates." Lee Suk Hoon, who directed "Dancing Queen" and "Two Faces Of My Girlfriend" will direct. The film has been described as a blockbuster because of the almost $9 million invested in it.

MinSul is Back! To The Beautiful You Interview with Minho and Sulli

Just around this time of the year when MinSul made me spazz so much and made me a shipper! The chemistry of these couple are so amazing, you just can't keep your grins under control. And then, I remember what's it's like to be young and fresh and in love.

[Review] Empire of Gold Episode 1 - First Look...First Impression

I just finished watching the first episode of the drama Empire of Gold which aired this week, Monday 9:55 KST.

First Look...

The drama started with the handsome Go Soo in his character as Jang Tae Joo. Although the scene is yet to be understood, the timeline I think is current. He exudes as a ruthless businessman. A man who will do anything in his power not be seized or be a pawn in the game of politics and business. With his handsome face and looking very, very suave in his suit, he began to bargain with a congressman. He can not be fooled easily. He knows when he is being deceived. He is as cunning as the next villain in a drama.

In an attempt to coerced, convince and threaten the congressman to take a vacation outside the country and not turn him in [for reasons I have yet to uncover] he did not continue to stab the man. But when he turned away, he sensed and that's when he killed him.  Witnessing all these was Yoo Seol Hee, a beautiful woman who I later knew as a friend of him, who I think is in love with him. She uses her body, like what the opening story told, to benefit maybe herself and for the love of Tae Joo.

The scene was very tense, powerful and as a pilot episode, I'd say, it captured my interest. Tae Joo used his charm, her love for him, as he kisses her through her shock of what transpired before her eyes, to confessing the crime herself via a phone call to the authorities.  Once again, you can see how fearless Tae Joo can be if he wanted to.

The ironic part, after the crime, he is found inside a church getting married to the heroin of the drama played by Lee Yo Won as Choi Seo Yoon.

First impression...

They both look good together. I felt the chemistry, albeit a very cold atmosphere inside the church. It was a wedding but just the two of them and a priest with a couple of boy ushers at the side. What a wedding for our heroine and hero or should I call him villain?

Lee Yo Won as Choi Seo Yoon is the daughter of  one of the richest man in the construction business, Choi Dong Sung who has a brother Choi Dong Jin.  The story will revolve around the empire/company and from what I watched so far, Seo Yoon really is doing her best for the love of the company and her father.

I found Seo Yoon's character as that of a timid, obeying daughter, but there is also a glimpse of hidden intelligence and fire within. She looks like a person who can't be put  down easily, but willing to do anything for her family. She protects her mother from troubles, yet, she might be in for a surprise, for being deceived in the process. I am  still not sure, though. But her number one rival inside the company is the President, Choi Min Jae, [Son Hyun Joo] who happens to be her cousin.

A very ambitious man that show his capacity to be ruthless and cunning to the point of maneuvering decisions already made by Seo Yoon's father who is unfortunately in a hospital.

A very serious decision that will put Jang Tae Joo's family in sufferance and that will somehow make Tae Joo be a part of this crazy grab for power. At stake was his father's life who was only dreaming of something for the family but because they are poor, while rich men hold all the buttons, he had an accident during the violent face off, the tenants of the building who already put a lot of money and the gang hired by MinJae.

For a viewer like me who is always waiting for subtitles, it is a very complex drama to watch, but I know after a couple more of episodes, I will be more comfortable on how the story is moving. There are so many characters to look out for. A complicated plot of money and power hungry people that will show how they turned to be one.

For now, this is my first look and first impression of the drama. My first review.

for screencaps I already posted on previous blog.

-this is mslee writing her thoughts-

till next episode...

[mslee's thoughts] Kim Hyun Joong Back in the Small Screen After 3 Years via KBS2! updating...

Can I just say that this is the best news I read upon opening my twitter and facebook account this morning? Wow, I'm so happy and thrilled for Kim Hyun Joong for this new project that will air on KBS2. After my disappointment to what happened in City Conquest, this is truly a blessing for Hyun Joong. As a fan, I embrace all things KHJ and reading this news, I feel that maybe this is the right time for his comeback. And reading about what's the story is going to be about, the era, I know this is his drama for this year. I have a feeling that the character will definitely suit him.

I have yet to read accounts about the plot but as it was tweeted earlier by another KHJ fan, Age of Feelings, which is going to be the title is based on a manhwa.

I googled the exact meaning of the term and this is what it says.

via Wikipedia

Manhwa (Korean pronunciation: [manฮฒa~manwa]) is the general Korean term for comics and print cartoons (common usage also includes animated cartoons). Outside of Korea, the term usually refers specifically to South Korean comics.[1] South Korea is now one of the major producers of comics.
The first woodcut manhwa, published in 1908.
Manhwa has been influenced by the dramatic modern history of Korea, resulting in a diversity of forms and genres,[citation needed] including a mainstream style same as manga. Distinctive manhwa can be found in editorial comic strips, artistically-oriented works, and webcomics serials.

I also scouted for more news about the story and chanced on this one.

excerpt...

Age of Feeling is set in 1930s Shanghai, and based on a manhwa by the same artist-creator who wrote the Damo manhwa, Park Hak-gi. The description is rather vague—we center around lives of young people and their “love and friendship, patriotism and ambition”—so we’ll have to wait for plot particulars, but it is an unusual setting for a Korean drama. The characters will span multiple nationalities—Korean, Chinese, Japanese.
The drama’s time frame is during the Japanese occupation.

-end-

I think that a period drama will be HJ's most challenging project. If this will be written and executed beautifully, this drama will make him a true actor. And I do believe he will give justice to his role and to the story.

I will not be bias here just because I am a fan, but I think there is a right time and a right project for every actor and if this turned out to be the one for HJ, this is going to be daebak!

November will be another great month for me, because not only it is my birthday, it is the aring month of Age of Feeling.

I also decided to share the news regarding KHJ's comeback.

UPDATING...

a follow up news from allkpop

Kim Hyun Joong to possibly return to the small screen through 'Inspiring Generation'

Singer and actor Kim Hyun Joong may be returning to the small screen after all for it's been reported that he's currently reviewing an offer to star in upcoming drama, 'Inspiring Generation'.

The singer-turned-actor was already supposed to have made a drama comeback through 'City Conquest', but many of you know, the production fell through and the drama never ended up being picked up for airing. So this news should definitely come as of interest for those anticipating his return as an actor!

It was said actor Lee Jun Ki was also reviewing an offer for the drama, so it's not clear if he opted out and Kim Hyun Joong was offered the role instead, or if the two are just cast for different characters.

'Inspiring Generation' is an action-packed drama which takes places in Shanghai, China during the 1930s and the stories that unfold for the youth of that time.

His agency has stressed that nothing has been confirmed as of yet and they're still in the reviewing stage, so keep your fingers crossed!

-end-

after reading this...surely, it is possible, because if not, Lee Jun Ki's name would have been the buzz of news articles.

anyway..will update but hoping HJ will be playing this role as the lead cast.

waiting....
